"We are Norwegian and African," Vinz says, "It is important for us to inspire. We sing about the things we've been going through and about finding ourselves. To us it's important to have a message, and the goal for us is to inspire people to find happiness."

In the music industry artist come and artist go. There are few artist who withstand the brutal test of time. Yet new artists, new sounds, and new music is constantly being introduced. The latest introduction blasting onto the scene is the Norwegian duo, Nico & Vinz. With their resume boasting opening up for Bruno Mars, touring with Usher, and now headlining their own tour, this all begs the question, “Are Nico & Vinz the next big thing?”

The duo is comprised of Ivorian, Nico Sereba and Ghanian, Vincent Dery. For these two, their cultural backgrounds have dynamically influenced their unique sound that features high energy and upbeat tempos. In the footsteps of legends like Lauryn Hill and Bob Marley, Nico & Vinz’s songs are draped in lyrical meaning and positivity. Their music creates a platform for knowledge, awareness, and inspiration. They address serious issues like HIV & AIDS in their song ‘My Melody’ and inspire others to chase their dreams in their latest hit ‘Am I Wrong’.

Only time will tell if this duo has what it takes to compete in the American market. A market filled with the contrasting sounds of “B*tch Betta Have My Money”, major hits like Fetty Wap’s 'Trap Queen', and the idolized appearance of big butts but little clothing.. you know, the type that's “so thick that everybody else in the room is so uncomfortable” (per Drake). Time has proven that provocative lyrics and sex appeal are on the rise while songs of substance are limited. However, in this cut-throat industry Nico & Vinz are continuing to hit stages with a “Why not us” mentality. Vinz conveys that in the likes of Rhianna, Michael Jackson, and Justin Timberlake we are all people, so if they can do it then we can too!

But, what do you think? Will Nico & Vinz’s musical talents and “Why not us” mentality propel them to be the music industry’s next big thing?
